We are seeking a passionate, reflective Middle School Humanities Teacher to join our team to meet students where they are and help them grow as learners and people for the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Overview
The Middle School Humanities Teacher designs and facilitates engaging, developmentally responsive learning experiences for students across 6th-8th grade multi-aged bands. Teachers at Mountain Academy balance strong academic instruction with meaningful connections to local ecology, economy, and culture. They inspire classrooms where students feel safe to take intellectual risks, learn from mistakes, and develop agency, curiosity, and purpose.

Key Responsibilities
Classroom Culture & Student Experience
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment where students feel known, valued, and challenged.
- Foster curiosity, perspective-taking, communication, and action through inquiry-based and place-based learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that promote respect, focus, and a positive learning community.
- Provide consistent, meaningful feedback that supports student growth academically and socially.
- Model calm, professional, and reflective behavior in all classroom interactions.
Curriculum & Instruction
- Design and implement lessons with clear learning targets aligned to Mountain Academy priority standards and our humanities scope and sequence.
- Teach in a multi-age classroom using flexible, skill-based groupings to meet diverse learner needs.
- Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and support student progress.
- Connect academic concepts to real-world contexts, including local ecology, economy, and culture.
- Engage students in critical thinking, creativity, and multiple ways of communicating understanding.
- Reflect on, revise, and strengthen lessons to ensure learning experiences remain purposeful, relevant, and effective.
- Integrate current educational research, feedback, and innovative tools into teaching practice.
Communication & Professionalism
- Communicate clearly, empathetically, and consistently with students, families, and colleagues.
- Collaborate actively with colleagues across Mountain Academy and TSS to align practices and strengthen school culture.
- Uphold school values and contribute positively to the broader Mountain Academy community.
- Demonstrate professionalism through preparation, organization, punctuality, and engagement in all school responsibilities.
- Seek solutions through challenges and remain accountable for professional growth and actions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree and Teaching credential preferred.
- Experience teaching middle school-aged students.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and differentiated instruction.
- Passion for place-based education and experiential learning.
- Collaborative mindset, reflective practice, and commitment to continuous improvement.
