Position Description:

The Early Childhood Summer Program Assistant is a vital member of Mountain Academy’s Reggio Emilia–inspired, nature-based summer programs in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Our programs foster curiosity, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning through outdoor exploration and play, inspiring children to connect with the natural world and each other.
This position works closely with the Early Childhood Assistant Director and instructor team to ensure smooth weekly operations. The Program Assistant supports program logistics, administrative systems, and family communication while also providing instructional and classroom support as needed. Expect to spend time both indoors coordinating systems and outdoors engaging with children, often in variable weather conditions.
This role is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in program administration, early childhood education, and summer camp operations within a dynamic, community-oriented organization.
Responsibilities:
Program Logistics & Administration
- Manage weekly program data and materials, including group rosters, medical information, teaching supplies, and photo files
- Maintain attendance tracking, schedules, and databases to ensure smooth daily operations
- Organize, replenish, and prepare materials and supplies to support instructors and program experiences
- Organize, archive, and help distribute documentation and photo files created by instructors
Children & Family Support
- Support family communication and logistics in coordination with instructors and the Assistant Director
- Assist instructors with lesson implementation, problem-solving, and behavior support as needed
- Engage with children to help create a safe, fun, and meaningful learning environment
- Support daily care routines including bathroom use, sunscreen application, and overall well-being
- Support Extended Day programming for up to 10 children daily (3:30–5:00 PM)
Team & Staff Support
- Assist the Assistant Director in facilitating staff meetings and ensuring instructors are informed and prepared
- Contribute to team success by sharing ideas, challenges, and feedback in daily and weekly meetings
- Provide classroom coverage or substitute teaching when needed, under the guidance of the Assistant Director
Risk & Safety Management
- Respond to emergencies following Teton Science Schools policies, procedures, and support structures
- Follow all school policies, state licensing regulations, and health and safety procedures
- Actively supervise children and maintain a safe, supportive learning environment at all times
- Safely operate 15-passenger minibuses for program journeys and ensure proper use of 5-point harness car seats
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with young children and supporting playful, engaging, nature-based learning
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing administrative systems
- Ability to work collaboratively while also managing tasks independently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience using Google Suite, spreadsheets, and database systems
- Strong interpersonal skills for building positive relationships with colleagues, children, and families
- Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive workplace and a sense of belonging for all community members
- Current First Aid and Adult, Child & Infant CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Minimum age of 21
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, driving record review, and all Wyoming state licensing requirements
